This special report, published by The Economist, argues that automation is less of a threat to workers in the emerging world than it is made out to be. Looking at the example of the textile industry in Bangladesh, it claims that for the foreseeable future, the Sewbot is not a threat to the abundant labour in such countries. Its existence owes a lot to some cutting-edge innovation and more than a little to some long-standing American protectionism.
