How India is Moving Toward a Digital-First Economy
8. January 2018
This article, published by the Harvard Business Review (HBR), analyses India's digital transformation, with focus on the country's demonetisation and large-scale tax reform (GST). It argues that the benefits of digital transformation in the provision of government does not happen quickly, while costs are rather concentrated in the near-term — which explains the resistance of status-quo interests against technology-led disruptions. Moreover, the article explains why digital disruption by government has not kept pace with disruption in business, and debates how technology can be used to build a digitally empowered society.
