The implementation challenge: sustainability solutions for infrastructure and extractives in emerging markets

EMSD Workshop in Mexico City on 19 and 20 April Investments in infrastructure and the extractive industries can be a powerful engine for sustainable growth and development. When poorly planned and executed, they may create substantial risks, including for the environment, the well-being of local communities and public finances. The two-day workshop, hosted jointly by the Emerging Market Sustainability Dialogues (EMSD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), brought together stakeholders from the private and financial sectors, including project developers, asset managers…

Sustainable Infrastructure Roundtable

Emerging markets are already the largest global infrastructure investors, while at the same time facing the largest investment needs. The scale of the challenge to deliver on the quantity and quality of infrastructure in emerging economies is unprecedented. Ensuring the sustainability of these investments will give impetus to the development paths of emerging economies and will make or break the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and global climate commitments. There are various global initiatives to drive sustainable infrastructure forward.…
